Who is responsible for your information
Northcrest Media Ltd runs this site and is responsible for the personal information we handle. The company is registered on Athol Street in Douglas, on the Isle of Man. We’ve named a Privacy Officer who looks after how information is used here and answers questions about it.
Most of our readers live in Canada, so we follow PIPEDA, the federal law that sets out how businesses must treat personal information. Some provinces, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia among them, have their own private sector privacy laws. Where one of those applies to you, we respect it too.
What we collect
Not much, honestly. We’re an information site, so there’s no account to create and no payment to make here.
Here’s what can reach us.
- Basic technical data whenever a page loads, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the visit. Our servers need this to show the site and keep it secure.
- Statistics on how pages are used, like which ones get read and for how long. We only collect these if you agree to analytics cookies.
- Your name, email address and message, if you write to us.
- The choice you make in our cookie banner, so we don’t ask again every time.
We never ask for ID documents, bank details or anything about your casino accounts. Please don’t send them to us either.
Why we collect it
Each piece of information has a reason behind it, and we don’t use it for anything else without asking you first. Technical data keeps the site running and protects it from attacks. Usage statistics show us which pages help readers and which ones need work. Messages let us reply to you. Your cookie choice simply gets remembered.
We don’t sell personal information. We don’t rent it out or trade it either.
Your consent
Consent sits at the centre of how we work. Analytics only switches on after you agree in the cookie banner. If you write to us, we take that as agreement to use your details for a reply.
Changed your mind? You can withdraw consent whenever you like, through the cookie settings on the site or by emailing us. The only thing it may affect is a feature that needs the information to work.
Casino links and affiliate partners
Some links here go to casinos, and a few of them are affiliate links. When you follow one, the casino or its affiliate network may record that you came from us, usually with a cookie or a code in the link.
That information is handled by the casino or the network, under their own privacy policy. On our side we only get totals, such as how many people signed up in a month. Nothing we receive tells us who you are.
Who else sees your information
A small number of service providers help us run the site, and they only get what they need to do their job.
- Our hosting company, which stores the site and its technical logs.
- A security and content delivery service. It shields the site from attacks and helps pages load faster.
- Analytics, but only after you’ve said yes in the cookie banner.
- The email service we use to read and answer your messages.
Some of these providers are based outside Canada, for example in the United States. Information they process may be stored there and can be subject to that country’s laws, including requests from its authorities. We choose providers that protect data properly and have contracts with them about how it’s handled.
Outside these cases, we’d only share personal information if the law required it.
How long we keep it
We hold on to information for as long as there’s a reason to. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days, unless we need them to look into a security problem. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. Emails and the details in them stay for 12 months after our last message to you. Your cookie choice lasts 12 months, and then the banner asks again.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
How we protect it
The site uses an encrypted connection, and only the people who need personal information for their work can get to it. Our providers are bound by agreements to keep it safe as well.
No system is completely secure, though. If a breach ever creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we’ll tell you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as PIPEDA requires.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, how we’ve used it and who we’ve shared it with. If something is wrong or out of date, you can ask us to fix it. You can also ask us to delete information we no longer need, or withdraw your consent.
Send your request to the email address in our footer and mention “Privacy Officer” in the subject line. We’ll reply within 30 days. To protect your information, we may ask you to confirm the request comes from you. Usually writing from the same email address is enough.
Making a complaint
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please contact our Privacy Officer first. Most concerns can be sorted out quickly.
You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you live in Quebec, Alberta or British Columbia, your provincial privacy regulator can help as well.
Children
This site is meant for adults of legal gambling age, which is 19 in most of Canada and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we find out we have, we delete it.
Updates to this policy
When our services or the law change, this policy may change too. The current version is always on this page, and it applies from the day it’s published.
